Vintage World War II U.S. Navy recognition cards, JAPANESE AIRCRAFT AND SHIPS, dated August 1944, in original box, total 53 cards

DESCRIPTION

 

These cards were prepared by the Special Devices Division, Bureau of Aeronautics, U.S. Navy.

 

The box states these are Self-Instruction Recognition Cards, Number 1.

 

53 cards are present – 38 aircraft and 15 ships.

 

Each card measures 2 7/16 x 3 7/16 inches.

 

There are 3 cards for each aircraft (except only 2 for the VAL). Each card features a black and white photo of the aircraft (each from a different angle) and RESTRICTED on one side, with one of three views (top, side, head-on) and a cryptic description on the opposite side. All cards are marked JAPAN to identify the country of use, and AUGUST 1944.

VERY GOOD condition. Some cards have light stains but all are completely intact and readable. The box shows wear and staining from use but is also completely intact.

 

This item has NOT been stored outdoors in a lean-to shed that fell over on it  No musty odor.  Always stored indoors.

 

Not an “estate sale find” ……
