This mechanical fuel injection system was developed in the 1980s to allow the “gray market” European-spec Lamborghini Countach fuel system to meet U.S. EPA requirements.
The assembly shown here was installed on the 5.2 liter 4-valve V12 engine in a 1985 Countach LP5000 Quattrovalvole (QV), replacing the six Weber 44 DCNF down-draft carburetors. ** ©nasa21 – do not copy **
This is NOT the system installed by Lamborghini of North America, beginning in 1982, nor is it the factory-installed fuel injection fitted to 1985 to 1990 Countachs.
This system is NOT complete and has not been tested. It should be examined by a competent technician to determine its functionality in its present condition.
The story behind this fuel injection system:
A Countach owner in California, U.S.A., had this system installed on his red 1985 Countach. He stated this system was developed by Bob Wallace (Bob Wallace Cars, Phoenix, Arizona, U.S.A), the legendary Lamborghini test driver. The owner had removed this system from his can and installed a custom-built fuel injection system based on Weber carburetors, the work being performed by Kinsler Fuel Injection to replicate the look of European-spec engines.
This “Bob Wallace” system was purchased from that Countach owner in 1998. It was never re-installed on an engine.
The foundation of the system is Bosch K-Jetronic, with components sourced from circa 1980 Delorean/Peugot/Renault/Volvo (PRV) engines. If that sounds less than impressive, consider that there are two fuel distributors, two mixture control units, two throttle bodies (dual throat), and two each of other parts required, each working with one bank of six cylinders, which was the function of each of the parts sourced – to feed six cylinders. The twelve fuel injectors are those specified for the 1985 to 1990 Countach Quattrovalvole (LP5000 QV).

The plenums and intake runners are custom-made aluminum pieces. Braided stainless steel hoses and steel injector lines (chromed/polished) add to the luster of the gleaming aluminum.
Each mixture control unit/plenum/injector assembly weighs 35 pounds and measures 37 by 12 by 9 inches. All figures are approximate and less air filters.
Air filters are 7 inches in diameter and 6 inches in length. Inside diameter of opening for aluminum connector to mixture control unit is 4 inches. Each air filter/connector assembly weighs 2.75 pounds. No identification markings are found on the filters. Filters appear to be in good condition.
“Mechanical fuel injection, 'K' stands for German: "Kontinuierlich", meaning continuous. Commonly called 'Continuous Injection System (CIS) in the USA. K-Jetronic is different from pulsed injection systems in that the fuel flows continuously from all injectors, while the fuel pump pressurises the fuel up to approximately 5 bar (73.5 psi).”

Parts for Bosch K-Jetronic fuel infection are available from CIS-Jetronic, Delorean Motor Co., and Speical T Auto in the U.S., and Mengenteiler in Germany, to name a few suppliers.
