ARTIFACT: This is a circa late 1930s or World War II badge for the 618th Pioneer Regiment. The 618th was formed on September 8, 1939 as part of the 18th Army Corps. The badge is by Drago and is nicely enameled in cobalt blue. It shows a lone soldier marching barefoot with both a rifle and a shovel.
VINTAGE: Circa late 1930s – World War II.
SIZE: Approximately 1-1/2 in height and 7/8 in width.
CONSTRUCTION/MATERIALS: Gilt brass, enamel.
ATTACHMENT: Vertical safety-style pin with saddle.
MARKINGS: DRAGO PARIS 25 R. BERANGER DEPOSE on reverse of badge; DRAGO PRIS on saddle.
